Fear is described as an emotion that is mainly unpleasant, caused by the belief that someone or something will likely cause pain or a threat to the person. Fear has the power to paralyze people to the point where they are rendered incapable of doing anything or achieving anything. For most of us, it would be best if we never encountered fear a day in our lives. Unfortunately, that is not the case and there are many who are literally controlled by their fear.

If we allow it, fear can penetrate every area of our lives. Sometimes we experience physical signs. Our palms start to sweat, our heart starts pounding, and we have a shortness of breath and dry mouth. If you’ve experienced these symptoms you know they have the capability of literally paralyzing you.

The good news is that God wants to comfort us and fight our battle against fear. The common issue occurs when we enter the “fight-or-flight” mode. When a circumstance introduces fear, our bodies produce adrenaline, the fuel that motivates us to either take a stand and fight against the fear or run away from the fear. Take a minute to think about how you react when faced with fear.

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

As Eleanor Roosevelt so eloquently put it, you must do the thing which you THINK you cannot do. That should inspire you to know that you have the ability to overcome fear and that God is on your side and wants to fight for you and give you the strength you need to overcome.
