This is not the fate for all, however. Those who live God-conscious lives have a keen awareness of God's ability to bring them water from a rock if He has to. He can even rain bread from heaven, or cause a whole flock of quail to fall in their backyard. He can cause clothing to last longer, cars to go further on a tank of gas, even cause bank officials to agree to lower the interest rate on credit cards. There is no end to God's ability to pull strings in the natural realm that are only pull-able because of the spiritual realm in which He dwells.
As in the words to Matt Redman's song, God is the &ldquoEverlasting Godâ€;¦the Everlasting God. You do not faint, You won't grow weary. You're the defender of the weak. You comfort those in need. You lift us up on wings like eagles.&rdquo This is the God who can bring miraculous provision even in the midst of a financial wilderness with no end in sight. God does this in many ways. He certainly can perform the miracles listed earlier. Yet His ability to provide is not limited to sudden miraculous occurrences.
God can work through the wisdom and insight of those who are in spiritual leadership positions within the Church. Seek the counsel of men and women of God who have had positive financial results and who have successfully weathered a few economic storms. Learn their secrets to overcoming potential financial landslides. Find out how they balanced their essential monthly bills while paying off debt.
Wise counsel from wise people, if heeded, can bring incredible financial flexibility to someone who is bound by the monthly budget crunch. Money-saving ideas can be exchanged. Even problematic areas in one's finances can be brought to light. The key is to come with a humble and teachable spirit.
Most importantly, God can work through a person's increasing knowledge and understanding of the Word, perhaps even more effectively than just by supernatural provision. As an old Chinese proverb states, “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed Him for a lifetime.”
This is a Biblical principle on which many believers will do well to meditate. God can, at His discretion, cause manna to fall from the sky, but it is His Word that brings the wisdom needed to pass through the wilderness into the land flowing with milk and honey.
God also chooses to allow Christians to be refined in the fire through economic struggles. So even if a believer appears to have lost everything, they can trust God and know that through it all, they will grow in spiritual things and move to the next level of justification by faith and sanctification.
