Don’t bombard visitors with every conceivable photo, article, or information piece you can find. Keep articles organized in categories and subcategories. Choose names for the categories accordingly.

2. Forcing Content Into Small Spaces. Rotating banners are great ways to announce dates or events. That does not mean you have to push all the information about the event in that small banner. Rather, simply include the event title and date with a nice design or picture that promotes it. Then link your banner to a page that provides all the information about the event.

3. Fuzzy pixelated graphics. You will only get fuzzy and pixelated pictures or graphics when you stretch the poor image out of proportion because the original size is too small. Verify the size of the original rotating banner, and size your image accordingly. It will look super sharp!

4. Free Plugins. You can have a $10,000 website, and it will look horrible if you keep messing around with additional free plugins and web widgets. Remember that the people who created those free plugins have to update them to keep up with latest technology. If they don’t update the plugins you’re using, your website will break. Stick with the beautiful, professional template given to you!

5. Bad Logo. Unless you have a website with a white background, your logo should always have a transparent background, so it fits seamlessly with whatever website design you choose. If you don’t, you will end up with this horrible-looking white blocked logo that looks really unprofessional! You can use any photo editing software to create a transparent background. Save your final logo as a transparent PNG file.

6. Multiple Fonts. Nothing says unprofessional quite like multiple fonts. Resist the urge to decorate your website with different colored texts and fonts. This is your online presence to the world! Make it count! A single font used in regular, bold, or italic will keep everything looking cohesive.

7. Clip-art and background music. Stay away from using clip-art or background music. There is nothing quite as annoying as being greeted with an automatic background song as soon as a website loads.

8. Out of date content It would be weird to visit a church website for Christmas service times, only to be greeted by an Easter invitation. Keep your rotating banners, information, and calendar up to date!

9. Multiple Color Schemes. Your website template has been professionally designed for you. The color scheme has been selected by a professional designer. You should stick with it. Look at the three primary colors found in your website template, then pick colors to use in your rotating banner and promotional material.

10. Using Copyrighted Material: Never ever steal, yes we said steal, imagery, content or media from any place on the web to use on your own website. Give credit to to the author, or get permission first.

Sharefaith church websites are used by over 3,000 US churches and are unmatched in value, price and content.
