Father\u2019s Day is just around the corner, on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.almanac.com\/content\/when-fathers-day\">Sunday, June 19th<\/a>. Here\u2019s a heads up so you don\u2019t procrastinate and spend a couple days beforehand trying to figure out something great to do for dad (or your kids\u2019 dad if they\u2019re little). We&#8217;ve come up with some fun ideas to celebrate Father&#8217;s Day.<\/p>\n<p>For some reason, dads seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to celebrating them. But what an honor it is to be a father. Dads have the opportunity of representing our Heavenly Father to their children. That is a steep undertaking, but when they\u2019re submitted to God the Father, what a blessing they are to the next generation.\u00a0 There are many ways to honor dads, whether you&#8217;re celebrating individually or as a church.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Father\u2019s Day Can Be Complex<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>However, Father\u2019s Day can be a layered holiday to celebrate.<\/p>\n<p>While there are so many amazing dads in your congregation, there are also people who are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Struggling with the desire to become a father.<\/li>\n<li>Stepping in to fill the role of father in the lives of other people\u2019s children.<\/li>\n<li>Dealing with the loss of a father in their lives either through death, absence, or a strained relationship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So be sure to acknowledge these men and provide an opportunity for ministry to take place. Offer prayer and encouragement, no matter what season these guys find themselves in.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sharefaith.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/what-does-it-look-like-to-be-a-godly-father\/\">this interview<\/a> about what it means to be a godly father.<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Ideas to Honor Dad this Father\u2019s Day<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Because we love our dads, and those father figures in our lives, here are some\u00a0fun activities to do with dad\u00a0to bless, honor, and encourage\u00a0him\u00a0this Father\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Play Backyard Games<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Dads love some competition. What better way to satisfy his competitive side and get some QT in than by playing some fun games together?\u00a0Get out the\u00a0ol\u2019 croquet set, play some corn hole, or enjoy a friendly game of touch football or catch.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Have a Family Game Night<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Enjoy playing board games or cards together to celebrate dad. This is another fun way to bring on the competition. Get out some snacks and\u00a0let the games begin.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Make Him Breakfast<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>One Father&#8217;s Day idea is to wake up early (at least earlier than dad) and make a delicious Father\u2019s Day breakfast. Don\u2019t forget the bacon! Or take him out for brunch after church. He\u2019ll enjoy the food and the company.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Host a Backyard Picnic<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This would be fun to do at home or even as a church. Pack up a basket with all of dad\u2019s favorite foods and snacks, lay out a blanket (or some lawn chairs), and enjoy his company while grubbing together. One of the great things about Father\u2019s Day being in June is the weather is usually permissible, but if not, just bring the picnic inside.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Go on a Hike or Bike Ride<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Many fathers really enjoy the great outdoors. Why not get out and explore together. Find a nice trail, grab the bikes (or hiking boots), and\u00a0breathe in the fresh air.\u00a0\u00a0Explore new territory together or find a familiar path. Either way, dad is sure to enjoy his time.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Have a Father\u2019s Day Cookout<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Again, this is a great one for at home or after church with the congregation. Fire up the\u00a0grill and\u00a0throw some meat on.\u00a0There\u2019s nothing like the smell of barbecue and getting to enjoy it with friends and family.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Take Him Fishing or Camping<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Another fun idea to spend some quality time with dad is to grab the fishing poles and head to the lake. And you can even pack up the tent\u00a0and make a weekend out of it. He\u2019ll enjoy getting away for a bit while doing something he loves with the ones he loves.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Join Him for the Father\u2019s Day Church Service<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Churches usually have a fun service planned for all the dads on Father\u2019s Day. Whether it\u2019s a funny video, some free donuts, or a little gift, celebrate dad at church, too.<\/p>\n<h3>Encourage Him with Scripture<\/h3>\n<p>Dads take on a lot throughout the years. What better way to encourage them than with the Word of God? Include one or some of these Bible verses below in your Father&#8217;s Day card or share it in a message or in person.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proverbs 20:7 &#8211; <\/strong><em>The lovers of God will walk in integrity, and their children are fortunate to have godly parents as their examples. \u2013 Proverbs 20:7 (The Passion Translation)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Proverbs 3:11-12 &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><em>My child, when the Lord God speaks to you, never take his words lightly, and never be upset when he corrects you. For the Father\u2019s discipline comes only from his passionate love and pleasure for you. Even when it seems like his correction is harsh, it\u2019s still better than any father on earth gives to his child. \u2013 Proverbs 3:11-12 (The Passion Translation)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Psalm 103:13 &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><em>The same way a loving father feels toward his children\u2014that\u2019s but a sample of your tender feelings toward us, your beloved children, who live in awe of you. \u2013 Psalm 103:13 (The Passion Translation)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Deuteronomy 31:6 &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><em>\u201cBe strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble in dread before them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you.
