Depending on the translation you\u2019re reading from, the word \u201clove\u201d appears between 300 to 500 times in the Bible! As we explore these kids Bible stories about love, it\u2019s important to remember that the word \u201clove\u201d is incredibly diverse in Scripture. In fact, the Bible uses different words to describe different kinds of love. Perhaps the most well known, are the four Greek words used for love used in the New Testament:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Storge:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Affection &#8211; Love between family members.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Philia:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Friendship &#8211; Love between friends.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Eros:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Romance &#8211; Love between spouses.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Agape:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Unconditional Love &#8211; The love of God.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bible teaches us that love is at the center of the Christian faith. In its writings, we are told:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To love God and our neighbor is the greatest commandment (Matthew 22:36-40)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without love our actions have no value (1 Corinthians 13:1)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">God, himself, is love. As Abraham obeys God&#8217;s command to sacrifice his son Isaac, God intervenes and provides a replacement offering. This Old Testament story is one of the most vivid pictures we see of Jesus, and how he would lay his life down for the sins of mankind. While we love our children in many ways, our greatest act of love will be entrusting their life to the Lord. God gave him incredible physical strength to defeat the Philistine invasions. Unfortunately, he became entangled in a dubious romantic relationship with a woman named Delilah, which compromised his ability to lead. He was captured by the Philistines when he gave up the secret of his strength. He died in a final act of vengeance toward the Philistines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Key Verse:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Judges 16:20 &#8211; \u201cThen she called, \u2018Samson, the Philistines are upon you!\u2019 He awoke from his sleep and thought, \u201cI\u2019ll go out as before and shake myself free.\u201d But he did not know that the Lord had left him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Application:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It\u2019s easy to fall into a self-serving counterfeit love.
