Even in the midst of dire circumstances there is much to be thankful for: We are forgiven and free from the chains of guilt, delivered from the hopelessness of facing an eternal existence in hell, blessed with all that we need, and we are given the opportunity to stand before a holy God and to call Him Father. Let the following verses encourage you to cultivate a heart of gratitude as you meditate on God\u2019s goodness as presented in His Word.<\/p>\n
Ephesians 1:15-16:<\/strong> \u201cFor this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.\u201d <\/em>During the times when we are not seeing things clearly we can be inspired and refocused by the faith of others and show gratefulness to God for their example.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Colossians 3:17:<\/strong> \u201cAnd whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.\u201d<\/em> This passage serves as a bit of a litmus test because if you can\u2019t do something in Jesus name and with thanksgiving, maybe it\u2019s better left undone. A heart of thanksgiving lends the correct posture for all that we do.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Isaiah 12:4: <\/strong>\u201cGive thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people, proclaim that his name is exalted.\u201d<\/em> We don\u2019t typically associate Thanksgiving with evangelism but this verse reminds us and charges us to not only thank God, call out to Him, and praise Him for all His blessings, but also to share the good news with others.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Nehemiah 12:46-47: <\/strong>\u201cFor in the days of David and Asaph of old there were chiefs of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving to God\u2026all Israel gave the portions for the singers and the gatekeepers, a portion for each day. They also consecrated holy things for the Levites, and the Levites consecrated them for the children of Aaron.\u201d <\/em>\u00a0Matthew Henry says of this passage, \u201cAnd whatever we do, must be purified by the blood of sprinkling, and by the grace of the Holy Spirit, or it cannot be acceptable to God.\u201d Without Jesus, true worship cannot exist.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Eph 1:15-16<\/strong>: \u201cTherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers\u201d.<\/em> We should not only thank the Lord for meeting our needs of food and shelter \u2013but also for friends and family that encourage us with their words, their knowledge, and their testimony of God\u2019s faithfulness.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Psalm 28:7<\/strong>: \u201cThe Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him.\u201d <\/em>David declares praise to God with true experience. The greatest praise uttered is the sacrifice of praise and worship coming from the lips of one struggling with burdens and experiencing weakness.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Psalm 107:1-2<\/strong>: \u201cGive thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story\u2014 those he redeemed from the hand of the foe\u2026\u201d<\/em> The phrase \u201cHis love endures forever\u201d is repeated in several places throughout scripture (like Psalm 106:1).
